    Biography

A third generation Californian, Marshall was raised as an artist. As soon as he could hold a pencil, Marshall was transfixed by, what he would later term, the alchemy of art: turning two dimensions into three through the simple application of line, shade and contrast.

Marshall received his first oil paint kit when he was seven but the acrylic set he received on his eleventh birthday sealed the deal for a lifelong pursuit of magic and the muse.

Although the first painting in Marshall’s trademark style came out in 1980, he didn’t stay focused on that vision until 2015 when it appeared that society was finally ready to embrace his unique approach.

Since then, Marshall has been working on developing his portfolio in order to finally realize his personal goal of sharing his vision with the world.

  • Artist’s statement

    What it all means

It started with a dream. A sudden explosion: a complete universe of color, energy, value and intensity spreads out across infinity infinitely. And from the center of all that now is and is endlessly becoming, a car door flies straight at me and stops. End of dream. End of sleep. End of wondering what my art should be, but the beginning of wondering what the heck it means.

Thirty seven years pass. So much has happened. Things gained. Things lost. But the dream never quit.

Thirty seven years of living has left me with absolute assurance about the meaning of the dream: God is easy to find in the natural world- the grand picture. But God is in the small, insignificant and man-made as well. The significance of this is spotlighted by the phrase-“...created in the image of God”. This wasn’t meant to insinuate that our creator has two arms, two legs and a white-bearded head. Rather, we are created in His image- AS CREATORS OURSELVES! By becoming fully aware of our own creative gifts, we praise and honor the source of all creation.

These paintings are reminders to see the hand of God in even the most mundane objects. If you can see God’s work in a hammer or a car door, how much greater will your appreciation of the grand picture be? Glory to AII! Amen.
